NLI is a full-service company that offers critical and safety-related equipment and equipment maintenance to the nuclear industry. In fact, we are the largest third party supplier of safety-related equipment in the world and a major provider of safety-related equipment maintenance.

NLI was founded in 1991 and grew to become the largest supplier of engineered equipment solely focused on the nuclear industry. NLI is located in a 200,000 square feet state of the art manufacturing and testing facility located in Fort Worth, TX, and has a full time staff approaching 200. NLI was acquired by AZZ in 2012.

NLI remains committed to the nuclear industry and continues to add capabilities as well as to develop and offer new product lines. NLI’s mission is to provide the worldwide nuclear industry with critical and safety-related equipment, equipment maintenance, equipment qualification, and engineering services in a manner that causes the least impact to nuclear plant resources, at the lowest long-term cost, and expeditiously to meet demanding schedules.

NLI maintains a quality assurance program that meets or exceeds the requirements of ASME NQA-1, 10CFR50 Appendix B, 10CFR Part 21, ASME III N, NS, and NPT, and several international standards. NLI works with every US nuclear plant and internationally, we are a major resource to facilities in Canada, Taiwan, Korea, Brazil, Slovenia, Former Soviet Republics, and Mexico.

NLI provides equipment and components for nearly all nuclear plant systems. NLI’s strength is developing and offering solutions to most difficult equipment challenges facing nuclear plants. NLI offers solutions to obsolete equipment – whether obsolete means impossible to obtain or simply obsolete technology. NLI strives to find best in class equipment in the marketplace and qualify it for nuclear use. NLI will also modify equipment as required to pass qualification testing.

In order to offer such a wide array of equipment and products, NLI partners with world-class companies such as Ashcroft, Bray, Krohne, Schneider Electric, Trane, and others. Once known primarily for electrical equipment, NLI has broadened its product offering to include many mechanical products and has become a dominant supplier of HVAC equipment. From simple pressure gauges to complex diesel generators or entire switchgear lineups, no job is too large or too small.

NLI prides itself as the company that will modify equipment if required for a particular application. We won’t try to sell you a square peg for a round hole. We’ll either modify existing equipment to meet your needs or find you what you need.

Mechanical

NLI is a leading supplier of valves and actuators as well as more complex items such as chillers and HVAC equipment. Most of our mechanical products are supplied in partnership with other companies, but NLI manufactures the QTRCO line of qualified pneumatic actuators in house. Obsolescence

Obsolescence is a common challenge for today’s operating nuclear plants. Post-Fukushima

With the primary goal to protect public health and safety from the inadvertent release of radioactive materials, the NRC’s post-Fukushima Order requires sites to develop a three-phased approach for mitigating beyond-design-basis events. NLI supplied station batteries to half the nuclear sites in North America as well as inverters, switchgear, and other electrical system infrastructure and controls.

Power Uprates

Standby Power

It is essential that nuclear plants have standby sources of electrical power to run critical equipment as a backup in case there is a loss of normal power. The typical plant has two or three large emergency diesel generators, each capable of supplying sufficient power to place the plant in a safe condition. NLI offers equipment in all areas of standby power, including emergency generators and SBO diesels.

NLI’s primary service is supplying equipment. We consider this a service because of how we approach equipment supply, which is to do everything possible to minimize the effort required by plants to install the equipment. This process may include locating the closest possible equipment match, modifying equipment as required, qualification testing, engineering equivalency preparation, and quality assurance.

Other services offered by NLI include breaker overhauls, and site installations of certain equipment. Installation, maintenance, and repair services may be performed in conjunction with our partners. NLI selects its partners based on superior products and expertise. NLI prefers to be a bridge rather than a wall between our customers and partners.

EQUIPMENT QUALIFICATION

Equipment qualification ensures hardware can survive the destructive forces exerted on it from normal plant operations, worst-case scenario accidents, and the forces of Mother Nature. Qualification testing may include any combination of thermal aging, radiation testing, EMI / RFI testing, LOCA testing, seismic testing, and software V&V.

DEDICATION

Commercial Grade Dedication (CGD) has become an essential process in the nuclear industry as operating plants seek replacement parts and equipment from manufacturers that no longer have, or may never have had, a nuclear quality assurance program.

REVERSE ENGINEERING

Reverse engineering in prevalent in many industries, most often used to prevent competitors from gaining too great of an advantage in the market. The nuclear industry uses reverse engineering as a survival mechanism.

DIGITAL UPGRADES

NLI has remained at the forefront in the supply of digital upgrades to the nuclear industry. While changing from analog to digital in a nuclear plant is no easy task, it is often the best alternative when faced with obsolescence challenges or when improved equipment performance is required.

NLI takes great pride in its engineering design prowess. Our large engineering department has designed numerous pieces equipment from scratch, and designed the modifications for countless others. Our engineers are some of the best in the industry and our product knowledge and experience is unrivaled.

DECONTAMINATION

In order to deal with the problem of working on contaminated equipment, NLI has a long-standing alliance with Alaron Corporation. Alaron has a versatile NRC approved license that allows for the decontamination of all items such as motors, pumps, tools, and other complex component.

The global leader in instrumentation and annunciators for the power industry. NLI's relationship extends to signal conditioners, annunciators, transducers and pressure transmitters.	One of the most recognizable names for precision pressure gauges worldwide. NLI supplies safety-related gauges, pressure transmitters, transducers and switches, as well as bi-metallic thermometers.	Manufacturers of linear actuators for all types of rising stem valves. Actuators can be adapted for applications requiring very fast stroke speeds, precision control or specific failure positions.
Manufactures motor driven linear, rotary and 1/4-turn actuators for valves and dampers. Beck actuators are known for superior control, reliability and low maintenance.	Resilient seat, high-performance, and triple-offset butterfly valves and swing check valves for commercial, safety-related, and ASME III applications. Supplies precision temperature measurement and control products. NLI provides MTI's thermowells, RTDs, thermocouples and accessories qualified per the IEEE standards.	Pioneered a safety relief valve acoustic monitoring system. NLI offers this acoustic monitoring system and spare parts as Class 1E.	Our teaming contract with OTEK Corporation allows for digital upgrades with I&C, and includes superior bargraph meters and other process measurement and control instruments.
Quarter-turn pneumatic actuators that utilize a superior balanced piston design and all stainless steel construction ensures long life in harsh environments. NLI builds these actuators at our corporate office for any application.
